About This Activity

Description

We're sorry, but online registration is not allowed for this activity. Please contact us during regular business hours for more information.

BACKGROUNDThe Cool Club was founded by the LVUSD in 2007 as part of Mariposa Elementary. It was an extension of the day, created to provide the core values of the school into an afterschool program. After the first year and extensive budget cuts, the district could no longer afford the program. But that didn?t stop us! Parents bonded together and decided The Cool Club was a valuable entity and that they would figure out how to continue the program regardless of district involvement. After several years of very much appreciated assistance from the CAPTns of Mariposa Elementary, in 2012 we excitedly formed a partnership with the Agoura Hills/Calabasas Community Center so we could continue to offer the program.
THE PROGRAMMs. Amy and the rest of the Cool Club staff work hard to ensure that each child feels welcome and apart of this unique afterschool experience. The main lessons that we integrate in our community are kindness and confidence. We incorporate these into all classes and play time by getting to know each of our kids and connecting with them on a profound level. Helping them to access the skills of problem solving through reason, compassion and respect for others, as well as how to ask for that respect from peers.
Kindergarteners are picked up at their rooms and eat lunch when they arrive; our teachers guide them in community eating and proper table etiquette. The rest of the kinder time focuses on interactive free-play, guided crafts, group activities and outside time. The main focus of kinder time is creating appropriate social skills and problem solving within the social setting.
What our day looks like after 3pm: Grade-level kids head over right after school and are personally greeted as they enter the room. Then we have an assisted homework hour and indoor free play. Next, we clean-up and have our daily meeting discussing concerns and that day?s activities. After our meeting is adjourned, we head outside for forty-five minutes of outside free-play, afterwards is snack time. From there, we venture into our two classes for the day. Once those classes are completed, we end with either inside or outside play.
Activities include but not limited to: art, theater, dance, music, yoga, novel, sports, chess, home economics, council circle and the kids most favorite, Fun Fridays.
Another special feature to the Cool Club is Store. Each child receives a checkbook at the beginning of the year and throughout each month they earn Cool Club dollars for random acts of kindness, volunteering to assist in the room, and participation in Cool Club activities. At the end of each month, each child must balance their checkbook and then they?re able to buy items from the store. Often the kids will spend their hard earned money on a gift and the kindness continues!
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call or email Ms. Amy at 310-613-0970 or amy@tonicentertainment.com.

This program follows the Las Virgenes School District Calendar and only meets on days when school is in session.
