Calling all legomaniacs¬— and brainiacs! Build your way to reading and writing skills as we use Lego bricks to render our concepts and ideas. While exploring elements of literacy, we’ll use our LEGO play materials to: • Visualize stories and inspire creative writing • Create masterpieces that connect to our books (character, setting, events, etc.) • Illustrate different types of writing (comic strips, newspaper, etc.) • Communicate stories to others Along the way, students will investigate story structures and use imagination and language to describe character personalities. Requirements: Bring a snack and a water bottle for breaks. Heather Wing teaches at Comanche Elementary School, where she has taught third graders of all abilities since 2001. Since 2004, she has taught students whose primary home language is other than English (PHLOTE). For the last eight years Heather has led and chaired the Student Assistant Team (SAT), working directly with parents and teachers to ensure student success in all classrooms settings. A National Board Certified Teacher, Ms. Wing holds a bachelor’s of art and science in education from the College of Santa Fe with an endorsement in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESOL).
