About This Activity

9:30 - 11:30 DramaTots: Imaginations soar in this fun-filled program as youngsters use an assortment of costumes and simple props to 'bring to life' characters from classic and contemporary children's literature. The children are also encouraged to collaborate as they create and 'perform' their own stories. Group games and a chance to 'tread the boards' for the very first time, help youngsters develop their unique brand of "star" quality! 11:30 - 12:30 Musical Tots: Put on your dancing shoes and turn on your singing voices as we discover how much fun music can be. We will sing, dance, and play music related games that allow the children to be creative while gaining an appreciation for music. The children will be encouraged to share their ideas with the group so that we can create our own versions of great story-telling songs. We will be learning basic aspects of music while playing these games, and they can also take away a number of original songs to share with their family and friends. INSTRUCTOR HEATHER SANDERSON (DramaTots) studied classical theatre at RADA in London and prior to moving to Alexandria acted extensively in the San Francisco Bay Area. As "Miss Heather", she is known locally for instilling a love of theatre - in particular Shakespeare - into the hearts of children. Her youth Shakespeare troupes have performed in D.C. and in the U.K. and her privately coached monologue students have performed at the Shakespeare Theatre, the Ford's Theatre and numerous community and children's theatres in the area. Heather may be familiar to fans of British television programs through her Tea with Heather segments on Maryland Public Television's Afternoon Tea. INSTRUCTOR MICHAEL PAGE (Musical Tots)
