About This Activity

The LEGO Challenge program introduces elementary school children (ages 6-12) to the basic principles of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). By integrating basic arithmetic learned in school with an intuitive active learning process, children grasp a better understanding of the fundamentals of physics and engineering concepts. Program Subjects Include: - Basic and complex mathematics: Instructors teach basic math from addition and subtraction to exponents - Famous scientific and philosophical figures: Archimedes, Sir Isaac Newton, Einstein, and more - Powers and principles in physics: Centrifugal and centripetal forces, the power of inertia, potential energy, kinetic energy, action/reaction law, buoyancy, torque, fulcrum, load division, angular momentum, and more. **Parents are invited to join the class each day from 11:15-11:30am to see a demonstration April 16th Program (1) ~ Pirate Ship Subject: An unstable structure in comparison to a stable structure. April 23rd Program (2) ~ Crane Subject: The lever principle – fulcrum, lever arm, load arm, torque April 30th Program (3) ~ Industrial Mixer Subject: Gear Transmission May 14th Program (4) ~ Cable Car Subject: Power Increasing Transmission May 21st Program (5) ~ Flying Man Subject: Aviation history, converting circular motion into linear motion May 28th Program (6) ~ Catapult Subject: Kinetic energy, potential energy, elastic energy June 4th Program (7) ~ Ferris Wheel Subject: Centrifugal force, centripetal force, anti-symmetry, vibration, & stabilization of the structure June 11th Program (8) ~ Conveyor Belt Subject: Presentation of the different motorized equipment, learning the terms: transmission, transmission belt, drive pulley, & driven pulley June 18th Program (9) ~ Windmill Subject: Belt transmission, speed increasing transmission, power increasing transmission June 25th Program (10) ~ Balloon Car & Rocket Launching Subject: Newton’s 3rd Law of motion – “Action-Reactio
