About This Activity

Description

Internet Registration has not begun yet. Check Registration Dates in details.

Grades 3-5. Explore the fundamentals of physics with roller coasters, puff cars, flying toys, and more! Students learn about the science behind movement as they design, create, and test a different project each week. Every class is full of fun experiments, hands-on activities, take-home projects and demos. Instructor: Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum staff. 6 weeks.

The 6 classes consist of:

Energy Transfer

Learn about the importance of energy transfer as students build their own roller coaster! One hill? Two loops? A jump? Students explore the laws of physics while building the model roller coaster of their dreams.

All About That Weight

Dive into data collection for this day of engineering! Build a car and see how its mass affects its speed. Learn what forces relate to motion and how to optimize a car?s speed.

Flying Toys

Explore the physics of flight as students design, build and test some of their favorite flying toys. How high will a rocket fly? Why does a boomerang come back? Students find out how scientists use the four forces of flight to keep objects airborne.

The Wind beneath our Wheels

Learn about wind energy as students design and create puff cars. The object is to see how far their car can travel with just one puff of air. Students take home their creations at the end of the day

Move like an Egyptian

Students learn about the ancient methods of moving objects. See how physics can help them move across water, land, and air as they design and build boats and catapults.

Movement Olympics

Learn about how the human body moves as students challenge each other in the Movement Olympics! A few obstacle courses will be set up for students to navigate through and see how their body allows them to move and win the gold medal!
