Grades 3rd - 6th & an Adult. Please register in the child’s name. Spring in Michigan loves to play hide-and-seek — one day it’s sunny, the next it’s snowing! But don’t worry — we’ll chase away those chilly vibes with some serious soup-making fun. In this hands-on cooking adventure, you and your young chef will team up to make cozy, colorful soups using Michigan-grown beans and hearty winter veggies.
Guided by community farm chef Kori Kanayama, you’ll learn how to cook big, flavor-packed batches in a pressure cooker or Instant Pot (6 quarts or larger) — perfect for freezing extra portions for busy nights. Kori will share a few of her favorite soups from around the world, like:
Minestra di Fagioli — Italian bean and veggie soup with a fun twist for leftovers
Creamy Kabocha Pumpkin Soup — smooth, sweet, and totally slurp-worthy
Korean Kimchi Stew — bold, tangy, and full of flavor
You’ll chop, stir, taste, and laugh your way through the class — and leave with warm bellies, tasty take-homes, and maybe a new favorite family tradition!
Bring your pressure cooker or a large, heavy-bottomed pot. To cook in a regular pot, choose a recipe that takes less cooking time. Instructor: Kori Kanayama. 1 class.
