The primary purpose of the American Red Cross Lifeguarding course is to provide entry-level lifeguard participants with the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize, and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide professional-level care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until emergency medical services (EMS) personnel take over. Blended learning combines online learning with in-person skills sessions where you will practice skills and demonstrate competency. We recommend that you begin the online session as soon as possible. Students must complete all eLearning modules before the first in-person skill session. Course Prerequisites: Age: Students must be at least 15 by the last day of class. Skills: All lifeguarding participants must complete the required swimming skills prerequisite for participating in an ARC Lifeguarding Course. The prerequisite skills assessments include 1) Complete Swim (150 yards)-tread (2 minutes)-swim (50 yards) without stopping to rest. 2) Timed Brick Retrieval 1 minute and 40 Seconds.
