The history of Latin American art music stretches back more than 500 years and is extremely rich and varied. This course portraits chamber music, concertos, operas, ballets, art songs, choral and instrumental music by Latin American composers. Discover and enjoy how the rhythms, melodies and harmonies were transformed in this continent to shape new music by composers such as Heitor Villa-Lobos, Ginastera, Lecuona, Guastavino, Sojo and many others. The countries of Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Venequela, Chile, Peru, Puerto Rico and Cuba will be included with an examination of the origin and development of each nation's musical identity.
