Young Composers' Seminar makes music theory come to life as students develop creativity, explore repertoire and create their own pieces through improvisational and compositional techniques. Students will learn strategies and develop skills for applying theoretical concepts and compositional tools to the creative process. They will listen to, study, discuss, improvise and perform music during class. Expect composition assignments as well as opportunities to collaborate and perform student works.
Placement, based on age and experience, is at the discretion of the instructor.
Requirements: Eligible students should be able to at least perform with basic skill and note-reading at their instrument, and have completed the equivalent of Theory I-1 or Theory I-2. Students should be studying an instrument. If you have questions about your child's placement in the class, please contact the instructor at Ginny.Latts@necmusic.edu.
