This course teaches lifeguard candidates the skills and knowledge needed to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies. The course content and activities prepare candidates to recognize and respond quickly and effectively to emergencies, and prevent drowning and injuries.
Prerequisites: Minimum age of 15; ability to swim 300 yards continuously, tread water for 2 minutes, retrieve a 10 lb. brick from the bottom of the pool. Students must be present at all classes in order to be eligible to pass the course. Students who successfully complete the course will be given Red Cross Certifications in Lifeguarding, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, and Standard First Aid.
Times of the class may be shortened due to enrollment numbers and the speed of the course progression; the instructor will communicate this directly to the students once the course begins. Students who enroll in the class but do not pass the first day of skills tests will be refunded 75% of the course fee; no other refunds will be given, including for students who may not pass the final exam.
