EFFECTIVE WRITING Does your child struggle with writing? Well this is the course for them! Responding to text is one of the most important skills necessary for students to be successful at common core. In this course students will use many interesting texts, both fiction and non-fiction to evaluate, analyze, synthesize, and organize written responses. The goal is to help students feel more confident in their writing skills while using shorter, more interesting texts. REAL LIFE MATH During the two-week session we will explore many different concepts in Mathematics. The time spent on each topic will range from 1-2 days to as much as the entire two weeks. These topics include Money, Measurement, Deductive Reasoning and Logic Puzzles, Number Patterns, Computation of Numbers, Tessellations, Polygons, Fractions, Problem Solving, and Geometry. The students will be working individually, with partners, in small groups and entire class activities. This course will develop and challenge thinking and reasoning skills. The students will be exposed to the many ways mathematics is used in the world around us. We will do many different kinds of projects that relate to mathematics. Each day, when the students arrive, they will work on computation, math journals, and logic puzzles. The students will also work on patterns of numbers that add, subtract, multiply and divide to equal 24.
