Lowell Adventure Club is an after school program for children in grades K-5 that combines outdoor education and unstructured nature play for families who need full time after school care for their children. The program runs Tuesday and Thursday after school from 2:15-5:30 pm for 10 months on days when school is in session and costs $20/day. Payment is due monthly ($150/month for 10 months). A $30 non-refundable deposit will reserve your spot(s). THE MAJORITY OF THE PROGRAM TIME WILL BE SPENT OUTDOORS. High quality clothing/footwear for playing outdoors in all weather conditions is required. Scholarships are available for income eligible families. Adventure Club participants meet briefly after school in the small gym at Lowell for check in, and get geared up to head outside for a welcome activity, snack (families provide) and outdoor education activities (learning outdoor skills, such as what to wear for different weather conditions, identifying plants, birds, trees and animals, building snow shelters, experiencing team work, building forts, hiking, orienteering with a map and compass, pond studies, etc.) along with unstructured free play in Lowell's outdoor classroom and school forest. Children will also have solo time to unwind and relax after a busy school day. FAMILIES SHOULD EXPECT CHILDREN TO PLAY OUTDOORS FOR THE MAJORITY OF THE PROGRAM TIME EACH DAY unless severe conditions require indoor play (per ISD 709 or school policy). Children will play outdoors in hot, cold, wet, rainy, windy, snowy and muddy conditions. The outdoor educator:youth ratio for adventure club is 1:10, with a minimum of 15 children and a maximum of 20. Positive Energy Outdoors professional outdoor education staff run Adventure Club activities at Lowell. A family handbook with details about what children need to bring and wear, as well as more details about program behavior expectations and policies will be e-mailed to all enrolled families the week of August 29.
