What's Included

This week we’ll explore the “non-Western” art world, including examples of styles and techniques from Asia, Africa, and South America. Campers will use a variety of media to create artwork inspired by art from around the world, and each lesson will include examples from art history to help the campers better understand and experience art from another culture. At the end of the week we’ll put our work on display in an art show for parents and other campers. Director: Molly Cronenwett

About This Organizer

Duke School is a nonprofit independent project-based preschool-eighth grade school in Durham, North Carolina. Duke School is committed to engaging in the continuing public dialogue to improve education for all young people, and was one of only a handful of schools around the country to be featured in the 1999 HBO production Goodnight Moon and Other Sleepytime Tales. It was also featured in the PBS series "Raising Young Children" and was chosen by the state of North Carolina as a model preschool. Duke School serves as a leading educational institution both within the "Triangle" and wider educational community; its teaching methods continue as a model for both public and other independent schools, and its unique child-centered, project-based integrated curriculum continues to adapt to serve a variety of learning styles.
