Intro to Taiko - Japanese Ensemble DrummingWorkshops with Fushu Daiko
These drumming workshops teach participants how to understand the sounds and movements of Japanese taiko drumming. In addition to an overview of the history and culture of taiko, participants learn how to understand sounds and movements and how to connect nature and the meaning of body movement. They will not only learn how to drum but also become familiar with the way of taiko. Age-appropriate drumming activities will be taught in each workshop for a positive and energizing experience.
Top performers from South Florida's Fushu Daiko will conduct the workshop. The group is recognized by Seiichi Tanaka, the master of San Francisco Taiko Dojo, who brought taiko to the United States and has trained senior members of the Fushu Daiko group.
Workshop time includes: warm-ups and exercises to stretch and strengthen muscles; basic elements of taiko playing including form, rhythm, spirit/energy, self-discipline, and self-expression.
Using the language of taiko, kids will imitate sounds, movement and rhythm while having fun and making powerful sound by drumming in unison with the group!
No experience necessary. All instruments provided.Just bring a positive attitude and a willingness to learn!
