The ride program caters for riders of all abilities, whether a camper has years of riding experience or has never sat on a horse, they are sure to spend some of their most exciting hours at camp learning how to earn the respect of these magnificent animals. Our counselors teach the Western style of riding, with campers classified as a Beginner, Maverick, Caballero, Wrangler or Bronc Buster when they first arrive at camp, and given appropriate instruction so that they can learn and advance up the rankings. For nearly 15 years, CSM has welcomed Chapel Lane Camp to Gaylord. They are a coed Christian group that shares our grounds during the week of Girls' Horse Camp in June. Chapel Lane brings their own staff and runs a separate program which is held to both the standards of the State of Michigan and the often higher standards that the American Camp Association has set - the agency through which CSM hold its accreditation. As with CSM's staff, Chapel Lane's staff undergoes background checks to ensure the safety of all campers.
