Learn to play West African drum rhythms from Guniea and Senegal along with folklore songs in this fun and exciting class. Students will review basic hand technique with emphasis on the 3 basic tones: slap, open, and bass. Students will also have chance to learn the basic stick technique for playing the following drums: djundjun, songba, and kenkeni. The class will discuss the meaning of each rhythm learned and how it is traditionally performed in Africa. Students should bring their own djembes and dunduns drums if possible, however a minimum number of drums will be available on a first-come, first-served basis at each class.
This session of West African Drumming is a full 8 week course. There is no drop-in option for this class.
