About This Activity

Description

The Goshen College Piano Camp is welcoming piano and music instructors to a special pedagogy workshop, to be held Monday June 10 - Tuesday June 11, with special guest Dr Garik Pedersen. The workshop begins on Monday June 10 with Dr Pedersen’s acclaimed recital, “The Victory Vertical Project,” and concludes on Tuesday June 11 with a teachers-only workshop: “Guido’s Nightmare,” a student masterclass with piano campers, and lunch with Dr Pedersen.

“The Victory Vertical Project” will be presented in Rieth Recital Hall at 6:30 p.m. on Monday June 10. Through music and a multimedia presentation, Dr Pedersen tells the compelling story of how the Steinway company sent over 2,000 pianos to active service members into the field from 1942-1953 to improve troop morale and strengthen resolve. His work on this project has earned accolades from concertgoers across the country and the 2021 “American Music Teacher Article of the Year” award from the Music Teachers National Association.
Pedersen, a Steinway artist, has performed as soloist and chamber musician throughout the United States and in Europe, Canada, Central America, Taiwan and the Philippine Islands. He has presented programs for the U.S. State Department, Music Teachers National Association, the European Piano Teachers Association, Canadian Federation of Music Teachers Associations, the Royal Conservatory of Music, and on numerous public television and radio broadcasts. A professor emeritus at Eastern Michigan University, Dr Pedersen has taught undergraduate and graduate students from many U.S. states and 13 other countries, producing prize winners in regional, national, and international competitions. Dr. Pedersen has appeared at numerous summer music festivals, including Cleveland’s International Music Festival, Spokane’s Musicfest Northwest, the World Piano Conference (Serbia), and the Tunghai Summer Music Festival (Taiwan).
Workshop fee is $30. Fee includes Concert admission, and all activities and lunch on Tuesday. The registration deadline is Friday May 31. Rooms will be available at the Fairfield Inn in Goshen at a special discounted rate
