Join talented visual artist Corinne Reinert (http://corinnereinert.com) for a week long observational drawing study where children learn to apply what they observe to what they imagine. Our days will begin with playful observation of the natural world around us and our farm campus. What happens when we shake the mulberry tree? Is that a red fox lurking by the garden? Who can find chickweed, jewelweed and onion grass? These experiences and discoveries provide daily inspiration for technical drawing skill development using the objects, plants and animals we find each day. From that foundation, young artists will then delve into drawing, painting and creating from their imagination with engaging and creative prompts. For example, line drawings of plant specimens might lead into a creative drawing & collaging block where campers create exotic plants from their own imagination, while taking into account the designs and functions of plant anatomy observed during the first drawing block and applying those features to their own creations. Our days will also include time for creative writing where campers write short descriptions or fictional stories of what they create to connect visual storytelling to written storytelling. Your child will come away from this week's camp with newfound technical drawing skills, an eye for the art and inspiration that is found in the natural world all around us, and the spark of freedom to confidently draw & create from their own rich imagination.
