GREEN Makers will explore the sun and wind as renewable energy sources as they take their learning to the next level through hands-on, minds-on “green” energy make and take labs. Students will model real-life mechanisms and use creativity, logic, and problem-solving skills to meet challenges with today’s technologies all while learning necessary science, technology, engineering, and math concepts. Tech It Out- Green Maker Camp uses three thematic interdisciplinary curriculum tracks (Solar, Wind, and Electric) to emphasize project-based learning and STEM Literacy. Students discover the boundless possibilities associated with renewable energy technology through hands-on learning opportunities using solar panels, wind turbines, fuel cells and multi-meters. Students will build a solar car, then test car performance with batteries and with a solar cell. Students experience a learning environment that simulates how engineers work to develop innovative critical thinking skills to solve complex open ended problems. Student describe and explain variable that impact the power output from wind turbines through hands-on activities and real-life models using measurements and data analysis.
