Investigate the wildlife that surrounds us. Learn how to identify our native birds, see what they eat and why they are so important. Find animal signs with scat and tracks, estimate size of animal through their steps, discover where they go and identify why. Be prepared to see our wild neighbors as you learn and explore! The fun filled day will include: environmental education games, STEAM themed projects and experiments, crafts, activities and immersion in the great outdoors. Our leaders include scientists, educators, state and federally permitted wildlife rehabilitators, veterans and spouses. They are trained and vetted to instill in your child a life long appreciation for the great outdoors, inquiry skills necessary for STEAM pursuits and a new found observational awareness. Our goal is to facilitate learning by stepping away from traditional methods through hands on learning, to spark the natural curiosity in each participant. All children will be required to have bug spray, sunscreen, appropriate clothing such as closed toed shoes, their own lunch and a snack. Children enrolled in extended hours should bring an extra snack. Possumwood Acres uses nut products extensively, including peanuts, to feed the sanctuary residents. Please consider this fact for those with nut allergies or sensitivities.
