Winged Creatures: Artworks Influenced and Inspired by Animals with Wings
Through the ages, artists have been inspired by animals, both real and fantastic, in a variety of ways. The history of animal iconography in art dates back to prehistoric origin, with images of bison, horses, and deer occupying cave walls. The 18th century artists and illustrators began to depict the majestic power of animals in their natural habitats and made prints intended for scientific study. This exhibition will bring together local artists who are informed and influenced by the history of animals with wings. From the anthropological to the imagined, we will feature all forms of winged creatures ? from birds to butterflies to creatures whose wings are purely decorative.
