This class is designed to teach the fundamentals of Olympic Style Weightlifting. Competitive weightlifting consists of the snatch and the clean and jerk.
Participants will learn proper weightlifting technique on the classical lifts in addition to assistance exercises such as push pressing, squats, and deadlifts. We will also address weight room safety, program design, core strength, plyometrics, nutrition, and mindset. The training will be scaled appropriately so it is safe for athletes as young as six years old as well as older adults. We encourage athletes of all backgrounds and abilities to attend.
Instructors of this class will be the head coaches from the USA Weightlifting sanctioned Got Strength Weightlifting Club. The club team has had multiple youth national champions and is coached by nationally ranked coaches Phil Johnson and Alex Schwabe.
Participants can choose between 1, 2, or 3 lifting days per week options. No equipment is required. Regular gym clothes are recommended. All participants will be required to fill out a waiver.
Olympic weightlifting has been called the sport that develops all athletic qualities. To excel at weightlifting an athlete must develop phenomenal muscle strength, movement skills, power, flexibility, and become a master of the mind. Therefore it is the perfect activity for recreational as well as competitive athletes of all ages and abilities.
