About This Activity

Explore the world of robotics using the new LEGO® Mindstorms EV3® line. Learn how to build and program robots by designing simpler versions of real world robots. You'll create a bot patterned after Starwood Hotel's robot butler, which can be programmed to deliver objects to guests. You'll make an animatronic creature which senses people and says hello to them. You'll also make a line-following bot and one which moves along like an inchworm. Plus, we'll spend a morning working in teams to build and program robots to complete missions similar to those in First LEGO® League (FLL) competitions! Create your own scrolling adventure game using Stencyl®, one of the newest and best ways to create games for a computer or mobile device. You will select or design characters, give them properties and behaviors for movement and interactivity, use built-in physics, customize the backgrounds and levels, add sound and scoring, and so much more. When you're done, you'll have your own unique game, ready to play at home (on Windows) or upload to Stencyl's online game library for others to play. The camp is geared toward students who want to make a professional-looking 2D game without having to write code. We will design a game through the selection of character behaviors and gameplay features. You will learn the programming concepts behind the on-screen actions, such as if-then logic and the use of variables and loops. For anyone who wants to gain experience in the creative world of game-making, this is the camp for you!
