During farm programming, children engage in the real daily work of the farm including animal care, building and maintaining natural habitats, and helping grow food. Children will plant, tend, and harvest fruits and vegetables and explore in great depth the source of our food. They'll learn how to grow and raise food using organic and sustainable farming methods and learn about why we have chosen these methods. We'll also emphasize forging connections with the natural world. Children will learn how to identify species and about the role individual species play in the larger ecosystem. We'll also leave ample time for free exploration and play in nature and take on nature-based projects led by student interest. During this session our biology lessons will explore creek ecology. All programming is led by Ana Skemp, M.S. Ecology, owner of Deep Roots Community Farm and Jamie O'Neill, M.S. Community Health Education, and program director at Grow La Crosse's State Road School garden. 9:1 staff to child ratio. Children will be asked to bring their own healthy snacks and lunch.
