This class is meant for those who are over the age of 6 and have a fear, distrust, or discomfort of the water or those who are over the age of 6 and have NO swimming abilities
3-5 minutes at the beginning of each lesson is dedicated to safety topics and attendance
The first few days will be spent getting used to the water and assessing skills
Noodles, barbells, kickboards, and other flotation devices will be regularly used
Some activities may be 1 on 1 with instructor and others may be a group activity. There will be down time while children wait their turn or are given an activity to practice independently
Modifications may be used with certain children depending on the severity of their discomfort in water
What the class accomplishes highly depends on the children enrolled in the class and their fears
This class may move at a quicker or slower pace depending on the lesson, the children enrolled, and the instructor
What skills they should already know:
Children should be comfortable working with an instructor and being around other children
Children should be able to take instructions and implement them (huge for safety)
Children should be willing to get in the pool
What skills they will learn:
Water entry using steps, ladder, side, and jumping in
Back float with ears in with instructor help or flotation device help
Front float with instructor help or flotation device help
Putting face in the water and blowing bubbles
Kicking on front and on back
Other skills may be learned if the class is advanced
