The 420 Advanced class is for sailors who have successfully completed two sessions of the 420 Intermediate class or can demonstrate similar skills. It is designed for sailors who are interested in learning advanced boat handling skills. There will be both chalkboard (pre and post sailing) and on-the-water instruction with a focus on fun while learning. This class will teach advanced 420 and Rhodes 19 sailing, including flying a spinnaker, as well as the fundamentals of navigation, anchoring, docking, sailing with a compass, trapeze, mooring and boat maintenance as well as some introduction to racing. This class has a hands on mastering-sailing focus. When complete, sailors will be well –rounded, independent, and confident sailors capable of sailing in most in-shore weather conditions. This class is best for 14-18 years old who are seeking to master the skill of sailing. To achieve that goal, it is not unexpected that sailors will take this course more than one or two times.
