The 420 Beginner class is designed for older children with limited or no sailing experience, and covers introductory sailing skills in the two person 420 dinghy. This class focuses on sailing basics, including boat rigging, sail trim and boat maintenance. There will be both chalkboard (pre and post sailing) and on-the-water instruction with a focus on fun while learning. Students finish this class with a good understanding of the fundamentals and the ability to rig and sail a 420 with supervision. This class has a hands on learn-to-sail focus. When complete, sailors will be able to steer and trim to get from point A to point B, sail upwind, tack, jibe, and perform other basic boat-handling skill as well as identify the parts of a sailboat and to rig and de-rig a 420. This class is best for 11-14 year olds who are interested in their first sailing experiences or to revive a forgotten younger child-hood skill.
