About This Activity

Grades 2-5: All new projects (Fall and Spring projects do not repeat) ●Newton’s Toy Box: We experiment with toys and objects and explain observations to prove Newton’s three Laws of Motion, with a variety of objects that emphasize the laws of motion that govern everyday tasks and cosmic interactions. -Projects: Marshmallow Canon, Grasshopper Flip, Ball in Cup Game, Pocket Rocket ●Terrific Scientific: We have Bernoulli’s laws help discover how many breathes it takes to fill a 2-meter long bag. We learn the science behind some cool magic tricks using polymers. -Projects: Disappearing Water, The Best Kool Aid, Color Changing Milk, Dancing Food, Jumping through Paper ●Sounds of Music: We make ukuleles while discovering sound waves. We create a band using palm pipes to hear how air vibrations create music. Using drum rhythms, we learn that sound has speed. -Projects: Ukuleles, Drums, Rain Sticks, Kazoos ●Grossology: Featuring facts and experiments about stuff that’s slimy, mushy, oozy, crusty, scaly, stinky, and smelly! -Projects: Baby Diaper Experiment, Alien Slime, Snot, Blisters, Smelly Feet ●Geology Rocks: Do you love to collect rocks? We discover what happens under ground while no one is watching. We explore geodes, create crystals, Plate Tectonics, and the Rock Cycle. -Projects: Rock and Mineral Collection, Edible Continental Plates, Mineral Jewelry, Make a Geode ●Weather on the Wild Side: Our weather can get really wild: tornadoes, floods, hurricanes, snow storms. We develop meteorological skills to better understand how weather works. Seeing vortex action first hand, we create tornadoes and capture a cloud in a bottle. -Projects: Model Tornado, Weather Instruments, Weather Cycle ●Stop Motion Animation: This is an incredibly fun, hands-on way to make amazing films, using materials like LEGO figures and clay. Young filmmakers learn the science of film and animation and special effects. -Projects: ZU3D Software, Set Design, Storyboarding, Lighting
