Intended for our slightly older students who are brand new to sailing, or have minimal experience, "Mariners" will primarily be taught in Prams and Optis, although other craft may be used from time to time. Mariners will differ from our traditional beginner sailing class, in that each student will sail alone (or in a pair) in a Pram or Opti, and an instructor will instruct students from an accompanying skiff. Instruction will be on self-rescue and water safety, and on building students' confidence by way of traditional lesson plans. The same basic skills taught in our beginner group class will be taught in this class and students will be expected to be slightly more independent, self-reliant, and have a stronger ability to follow direction and instruction. We ask that students wear closed toe shoes when participating in the Mariners program. This class is intended as a 1-2 week curriculum.
