Fast Break Club Mission/Purpose
The mission of the Fast Break Club is to develop fundamentals, teamwork, self-confidence and sportsmanship in New London youth basketball players. The purpose of the Fast Break Club is to promote and provide different levels of basketball opportunities to any boy attending a school (public, parochial, or home) in the New London School District. The Fast Break Club includes boys in grades K ? 12.
Program 1 (Heart of the Valley League) Grades 3 to 6
Program 1 Purpose: This program is designed for skill development and introduction to game situations. This program provides a fun level of learning the game. The purpose of this program is to start to introduce competitive play with less focus on winning. Individual development is emphasized. If a grade fields more than one team, the players will be split equally. All players will have equal playing time to the best of the coach?s ability.
Program 1 for grades 3 ? 6 will run from October through the first week of December. Heart of the Valley (HOV) games will take place on November 5, November 12, and December 3. Teams will travel to a school within the Valley area and play approximately three games each Saturday. This program will allow boys with different skill levels to compete on the same team, allowing the learning experiences this format provides. There will be 1 ? 2 practices per week for each team. This program is open to both public and parochial school boys, as well as those boys who are home schooled.
Program 2 (Traveling Tournament Teams) Grades 3 to 8
Program 2 Purpose: This program is designed to provide competitive play for those boys who want to compete at a higher level. This program will allow boys with similar skills to compete on the same team, allowing the learning experiences this format provides. This level will allow us to be competitive with other schools' top teams. Teams will play competitively in weekend tournaments in and around Northeast Wisconsin. There will be 1 ? 2 practices per week for each team. This program is open to both public and parochial school boys, as well as those boys who are home schooled.
Team Make up: 7 ? 8 players on a team. Our goal is to have more teams with fewer players to allow for more playing time. Additional coaches will need to be secured to reach our goal.
? 3rd and 4th grade ? teams will be divided evenly.
? 5th through 8th grade ? teams will be divided by most skilled 7 ? 8 players, then the next 7 ? 8 players and so on. Coaches will attempt to select tournaments that are appropriate for the skill level of the team.
Length of season: Starts in December and runs through March. Season may extend to April depending on grade level State Tournament (5th ? 8th grade). The 7th and 8th grade teams will start after their Middle School basketball season.
Recommended tournament entries by grade, including our home tournament:
3rd grade: 3 to 4 tournaments
4th grade: 4 to 5 tournaments
5th grade: 5 to 6 tournaments
6th grade: 6 to 7 tournaments
