OBJECTIVES: In addition to helping children orient to a water environment, this program teaches water adjustment and basic swimming skills. These classes are held without parents and require the children to be ready to participate independently of their parent in a group setting. Children will develop an awareness of their own bodies, acquire a feeling of independence, gain a sense of success and increase their self-esteem.
RAYS: Advanced Beginner 1
LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Learn the safety swim, how to float without a floatation device, develop treading skills, bobbing, and rhythmic breathing skills. Introduce different ways to move arms: symmetrical and alternating arm strokes. Learn more water sports and rescue skills.
REQUIRED SKILLS TO PARTICIPATE: Can paddle for 15 feet on their front, side and back without floatation or assistance. Has the endurance to paddle for 25 yards (distance equal to the length of the lap pool) while wearing a floatation belt. Can jump out into deep water away from the pool side, paddle to the surface and return to the side without assistance.
