Youth & Government provides high school students with practical experience in the study of state government. Participants study current issues, draft legislative bills, learn how to present their legislation in committees and debate them on the floor of the House or Senate. Youth and Government also includes a judicial program and special programs for pages, print media and video journalists, legislative lobbyists, and legislative analysts.
Students participate in training and elections with two trips in November and January to prepare for the highlight of the
Program: a trip to the State Capital in February. In Sacramento students join other Y&G groups from all over California to
preside over all aspects of the state government with access to:
· The entire Capital and Supreme Court Chambers including the Senate and Assembly floors.
· All government offices and the Governor's personal suite.
· All Appellate and Trial Court chambers.
