Something magical always happens when children work with clay, perhaps because it is a medium that begs to be poked, pinched, twisted, and squished. During the GFS Ceramics Camp, participants will express their creativity through a variety of projects that involve hand building with low-fire clay along with the incorporation of other craft materials. There will also be an opportunity to experiment with making vessels on the pottery wheel. Campers will begin by reviewing the fundamentals of hand building techniques before moving onto more complex projects, including mirror and picture frames, textured plates, and lidded vessels. Although campers may enroll in either the first or the second week, enrolling in both weeks is recommended so participants can see their projects through from design and creation to drying, glazing, and firing. There is nothing like the feeling of sliding your finger over the shiny, glazed surface of a finished project you’ve made yourself, so join GFS Ceramics Club instructor and Clay Studio ceramicist Lynne Dorman for some genuine, roll-up-your-sleeves, get-your- hands-dirty fun! Ceramics Camp is an afternoon-only camp and participants may wish to start their day with either our all-new Explorers Day Camp or our Woodworking Camp (for campers in 2nd - 4th grades) during the morning session. Lunchtime bridge coverage is available. Bus transportation is available to Center City at 4:00 p.m. for $50/week provided 17 campers sign-up on or before June 1 for transportation during the week of June 20 - June and/or 17 campers campers sign up on or before June 1 for transportation during the week of June 27 - July 1.
