In the Jade Tiger group, students will continue to hone their Chinese skills in speaking. listening, reading and writing. We will follow the textbooks My First Chinese Reader, Vol. 2 and Chinese Made Easy, Vol. 2 to learn the Chinese words and sentence patterns used in daily life. Under the direction of native Mandarin speaker and GFS Middle School Mandarin instructor Diana (Wei Chen) Santarella, students in the Tiger group will expand their Chinese vocabulary and sentence structures using competitive games and paired or group tasks. Children are encouraged to practice their Mandarin through storytelling and play-acting. We will also read dialogues in the books and practice writing the essential Chinese characters. The goal is for the class to perform during a LS Assembly at the end of the fall term. (Please note: This club meets twice a week, and for a modest additional fee, students in grades 4 and 5 who are not already enrolled in ASPire are invited to attend from 3:10 - 4:15 p.m. and students in grades 6-8 are invited to attend MSAS from 3:10 - 4:15 p.m.) Please note: GFS is closed on Friday, November 4, Thursday, November 24, and Friday, November 25 and so there will be no club on those days, and the final club session will take place on Friday, December 9.
