To promote a healthy lifestyle that involves athletic and breathing practices for students. Yoga helps to improve balance, flexibility, and agility. It also helps to teach breathing techniques that can be used to help students to re-focus, calm themselves, manage emotions, and to relax. The club will be open to Kindergarten to third graders for one session and fourth through eighth graders for one session. Each week the students will build athletic skills through the use of age appropriate yoga practice. The classes will begin at a level appropriate for all beginning students. The class will be taught by a volunteer yoga instructor. For the first 6-8 weeks of club, she will teach the basic yoga positions, movements, fundamentals, and breathing techniques. Starting in November the club will be structured as a youth yoga class. Students should wear or change into comfortable, stretchy clothing for the class. If students have any personal yoga supplies, such as a mat, towel, block, or strap they may be brought in, however these are not necessary to join the club.
