Calling all digital art enthusiasts! In this two day workshop for youth ages 11–14, participants will investigate the exciting world of digital art and animation using the powerful illustration app Procreate. Led by Teaching Artist Fry, participants will learn how to bring their ideas to life through storytelling, design, and motion. Day One: Participants will practice the fundamentals of digital art making, experimenting with brushes, layers, workflow, and clipping masks. Through fun drawing challenges and interactive lessons, artists will develop original digital illustrations while practicing ideation, thumbnailing, and refinement. Day Two: Building on their skills, artists will move into the world of animation, experimenting with techniques such as frame-by-frame movement, squash and stretch, overshoot, and anticipation. Using design thinking, they will practice ideation, prototyping, and transforming still images into moving works of art. Why sign up? This workshop empowers youth to transform imagination into motion by emphasizing creativity and collaboration. By the end, each participant will walk away with a completed short animation—and the skills and enthusiasm to keep creating with Procreate on their own.
