This unique course combines basic chasing and repoussé with simple dot and line inlay techniques. In the first 5 weeks, learn to manipulate flat metal sheet into intricately detailed shapes, working from the front and back. For the next 5 weeks, embellish the surface of our forms with simple line and dot inlay. Learn to shape and temper your own collection of chasing tools and inlay chisels. This class is suitable for both those new to these techniques and experienced makers who may combine various inlay techniques for more complex designs. Some traditional Japanese metal coloring techniques will also be covered.
No prerequisite, but Metals 1 or equivalent recommended. Price includes a $150 studio and materials fee which includes fine silver wire and chasing tools for the student to keep. After 1st class, these fees are non-refundable.
