Create your own narrative painting using personal photographs or a combination of images. Source material can include details from other paintings, illustrations, or your imagination. Instruction guides you toward an original work through a better understanding of visual language, composition, underpainting techniques, and color mixing.
Oils or acrylics welcome. Students cannot miss first class. Get materials online.
Choose from oils OR acrylics. The materials listed with an asterisk (?) indicate materials used for oil painters only.
? glass, plastic, or treated wood.
? Gamblin?s Neo Megilp for oils.?
? Golden?s acrylics medium for acrylics.
? Hog bristle flat or bright size 10 or 12, plus a two inch regular house painting brush (you can get them at Fred Meyer cheap). Bring any other brushes you like but at least have these to start.
Size may vary depending on your project, but should be at least a 16x20 stretched canvas.
? White (for oil Titanium-Zinc is good)
? Cadmium Yellow Deep (for oils get Gamblin brand as this color varies widely depending on brand)
? Burnt Sienna
? Ultramarine Blue
? Terre Verte?
Other colors may be added as you progress with your painting.
? Palette knife
? Low odor paint thinner (Gamsol by Gamblin is good?
? Rags and paper towels
? Two small jars with lids
