"We will start our executive functions journey by learning about the power of positive thinking, including positive affirmations and the concept of “yet”. We will learn how setting SMART(ER) goals can help our focus and outcome. We will learn how to create and maintain good habits and routines. We will organize backpacks and put together a binder, including a student planner, for class (I can help with other classes as well). We will tie it all together by pairing all these with executive functions (a set of cognitive processes that are essential for controlling behavior and managing tasks, including for effective learning, decision-making, and self-regulation). Participation in class is required as is homework. Part 2 is offered as a separate semester-long class during which we will focus on the specific executive functions and how they apply to each of the students." Instructor: Audra Eckes Audra grew up on Long Island. After earning an MS in Deaf Education, she worked as a Teacher of the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing in NYC, Long Island, and Maryland. She moved to NC in 2007 for her career but wound up becoming a bonus mom to a child who eventually needed to be homeschooled. So, in 2014, a new “teaching”/learning adventure began. Besides learning, Audra’s other interests include reading, writing, photography, dog rescue, and spending time with her family.
