"PokéCommerce is a hands-on, real-world course where students learn to build and launch their own fully functioning online store using WordPress.org and WooCommerce. While Pokémon cards are the theme, students can sell anything they collect, make, or imagine. This project-based course teaches web development, branding, digital marketing, product photography, customer service, and basic entrepreneurship—mirroring what adult creators and sellers do in the real world. By the end of the course, each student will have: Their own branded website, fully hosted online, A real or mock domain name (e.g., yourstore.com), A working online shop that accepts payments through PayPal or Stripe, At least 3 products with descriptions, images, and pricing, A custom logo and homepage banner designed in Canva, A product showcase video edited in CapCut and published on YouTube, A functional checkout and order notification system, and A basic understanding of customer communication and packaging/shipping This is not just a middle-school class—it’s a real launchpad for young people serious about entrepreneurship and starting a digital business. Students are expected to complete work outside of class each week to prepare assets, write copy, test their stores, and film marketing materials. The more they put in, the more they’ll take away. Instructor: Winton Wedderburn "I’m a web developer and digital consultant with a background in helping small businesses, nonprofits, and individuals build their online presence. I work mostly with WordPress, the world's most popular web platform; setting up websites, fixing technical issues, and helping folks figure out how to run things like online stores, blogs, and digital portfolios. What started as a hobby, tinkering with web design in my spare time, eventually grew into freelance work and now a full-time career.
