About This Activity

We are excited to host Savasda Gilmore for our school theater performance this coming year! This fall performance will be hosted the first week of December for tech week and shows. Instructor: Savada Gilmore "I'd just like to take a moment to formally introduce myself. I'm Savada J. Gilmore, the Performance Theatre Teacher here at The Homeschool Experience! Here's just a little bit of background about me, for anyone who might be interested! I hold a BA in Performance Theatre from High Point University right here in NC, and also spent a year and a half in Honolulu, HI of all places, training under two world-class Shakespearean actors, directors, and educators; the late Terence Knapp (TK), officially recognized as ""Hawai'i's Adopted World Class Actor,"" and his immensely talented successor, the brilliant and dynamic Paul Mitri! As an actor, I have a great number of stage credits on university, community theatre, and professional stages (including work with the reputable NC Shakespeare Festival and Burning Coal Theatre in Raleigh, NC). As an educator, I served as the full-time Theatre Arts Instructor at Guy B. Phillips Middle School in Chapel Hill (my hometown) for 4 years, and built the program from the ground up - as there was no theatre to be found there for about 15 years prior to my arrival. As a Youth Theatre Director in Chapel Hill, I produced several shows with elementary aged kiddos; The Wizard of Oz, Twelfth Night (Shakespeare), and Alice in Wonderland Jr., just to name a few. As for my work directing middle school productions, some of my credits include, but are not limited to: The Tempest (Shakespeare, again), Into the Woods Jr., Beauty and the Beast Jr., and The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe. Additionally, I've spent the past two summers instructing a two-week 'EXTREME Drama' camp for The Town of Carrboro, where we've had tons of fun producing original one-act plays!
