"I love my homework...when it's watching movies! This course explores the analysis and interpretation of film, examining the elements of cinema, including narrative, mise-en-scene, cinematography, editing, film history, film genres, and creative and technical roles in film production. Students will view films critically, speak, and write critically about films. Students will produce and share media independently and collaboratively for various purposes. Films will be rated PG or lower; excerpts from rated PG-13 movies might be shown in class, but no parts that would warrant the rating will be shown or required without specific and unanimous parent/guardian approval. Students will be required to watch the assigned films at home; they will also need access to a phone with a camera or a video recorder and a computer at home with internet and a word processing program (Google Docs is fine). " Instructor: Stephenie Stevens """Ms. Stephenie has been homeschooling her children since 2019, and her family has been at THE since 2021. She has a Bachelors of Specialized Studies in Literature and Drama degree from Ohio University, and a Bachelors of Science degree in Genetics from NCSU. Her favorite classes to teach are high school literature and elementary math. Her philosophy of life is that we should all keep learning throughout life, and over the last several years she has learned a lot about meeting the students where they are both academically and socially. She anticipates continuing to learn more on this topic and many others because each student at each stage teaches her so much. She is overwhelmed with gratitude and joy for the opportunity to teach in this atmosphere."""
