We study literature to learn about other cultures, history, and empathy. This study increases vocabulary, understanding of grammar, and critical thinking skills. Many homeschool students love to read; with a guided class, they can get more out of reading than just entertainment. Students who are reluctant readers often will only do so in a group or school environment. In this class we will explore the 3 primary forms (fictional prose, poetry, and drama), learning about the elements of literature, covering several genres, and examining some of the most important literary works around the world and through time. Students will need to have access to a computer at home that has both a word processing application (Google Docs is fine) and internet access. This is a transcript worthy class; for those who wish to have a transcript grade, I will provide a first and second semester grade, as well as, a class description and narrative of the student's performance at the end of the year. Instructor: Stephenie Stevens Ms. Stephenie has been homeschooling her children since 2019, and her family has been at THE since 2021. She has a Bachelors of Specialized Studies in Literature and Drama degree from Ohio University, and a Bachelors of Science degree in Genetics from NCSU. Her favorite classes to teach are high school literature and elementary math. Her philosophy of life is that we should all keep learning throughout life, and over the last several years she has learned a lot about meeting the students where they are both academically and socially. She anticipates continuing to learn more on this topic and many others because each student at each stage teaches her so much.
