Hello 4th and 5th Grade Families, We are starting up our first Math Olympiad for Elementary and Middle Schools (MOEM) team! This Opening Doors club is for students who really love math, timed contests, and solving problems. Students in MOEMS take part in five monthly contests beginning in November through early March. Each contest has 5 non-routine problems, and meant to be done individually without calculators in 30 minutes. On non-contest Mondays, the students will be grouped together to figure out practice MOEM problems together and discuss their insights, solutions, and methods. The club, under the direction of 5th Grade Teacher Abby Guyer, will meet each Monday in her classroom, beginning November 10, and run Monday sessions until the first Monday in March after Spring Break, from 3:00 - 3:50, with a pick up at 3:50 sharp in the Ellis Traffic Circle. Our limit is 16 4th and 5th Grade students. Selection will be a combination of first-come, first-serve and a review of each student’s math performance and ability to work well in a small group. On non-contest Mondays, the students will be grouped together to figure out practice MOEM problems together and discuss their insights, solutions, and methods. Here are some practice MOEM problems. On contest days, 5 problems similar to these will need to be completed in 30 minutes! 11 Sessions, on Mondays: November 10, 17 December 1, 8, 15 January 12, 26 February 2, 16, 23 March 9 The cost is $150 per student. Thank you!
