Camp Joy, in it's 33rd year is held at the Rotary Sunshine Campus in Rush, New York. It is a fully accessible residentail summer camp that meets the needs of adults (18-99) with paralysis and other phisical challenges. This Christ Centered camp gives adults with special needs a unique overnight camping experience.
The Sunshine Campus has state-or-the-art experiences for campers, including a rock climbing wall, zipline, olympic sized swimming pool, archery, crafts, fishing,hiking, miniture golf and a fully accessible wooden treehouse.
The evening offers a variety of activites form a campfire, a dance with a DJ, a carnival and musical talent.
ESSENTIAL ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR CAMP ADMISSION
1.) Campers must be 18 years and older.
2.) Have a physical or mental disability.
3.) Have the ability to effectively communicate needs to a camp counselor.
4.) Is not abusive towards him/herself or others. i.e. does not physically, verbally, or sexually abuse self or others, which may include hitting, biting, scratching, spitting, kicking, excessive swearing, excessive or inappropriate yelling or verbal degradation, inappropriate touching or fondling or other inappropriate behavior.
5.) Does not have a medical condition or impairment that requires specialized medical treatment (i.e. intravenous infusions, awake overnight monitoring)
6.) Does not have a medical condition or impairment that has a substantial risk or likelihood for complication or injury.
7.) Is in acceptable health as indication by: not having a temperature grater than 99.5F orally, not having blood pressure greater than 160/90, not having a heart rate greater than 120 BPM.
8.) Agrees to and takes prescription medication.
9.) Clears a background check.
