Got a kid who loves to move and groove to popular tunes! Intro to Hip Hop combines the fun music that kids love with age appropriate movement fundamentals. Students learn the basics of hip hop through games, action songs and choreography, and learn the importance of moving with their own unique style!
Session 1: September 14th - October 12th (5 weeks); $80 per session
Session 2: October 19th - November 9th (4 weeks); $65 per session
Attire: comfortable clothes that dancers can move in that are free of zippers and buttons. Sneakers that are only worn indoors (no street shoes) are preferable, but socks are ok too.
Instructor: Katrena Cohea has been dancing for over twenty years and teaching for over ten. She received her early training with Jeanie Pors at Benicia Ballet School, studying the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) syllabus. She is a member of the RAD, and has completed their Certificate in Ballet Teaching Studies (CBTS). She holds a B.A. in Dance from CSU East Bay, where she received training in jazz and hip hop from noted Bay Area director and choreographer Laura E. Ellis. She danced with the San Francisco Conservatory of Dance for 4 years, working with notable Bay Area choreographers including Alex Ketly, Robert Moses and Cheryl Chaddick. Katrena was an apprentice and company member of Brisas de Espana Flamenco and Spanish Dance Company under the direction of Carolina Lugo for 3 years. Katrena has performed and taught across the United States and Canada including Vancouver, New Mexico, and New York.
