About This Activity

Description

In this class, swimmers, ages 5 to 12, learn how to swim to safety from a longer distance than in previous stages if they fall into a body of water. This stage also introduces rhythmic breathing and integrated arm and leg action. Swimmers must be able to demonstrate all stage two skills before attending this class: float on front and back unassisted; push off the wall on stomach with face submerged for ten feet unassisted; swim, float, swim 15 feet unassisted; jump into deep water and return to the wall unassisted. This class is for kids who cannot swim 10-15 yards on their front and back. Swimmers will practice and develop the following skills: retrieve an object in chest-deep water; swim on front and back for ten yards; roll from back to front and front to back; jump, push, turn, grab ten yards; swim, float, swim 15 yards; tread water for 30 seconds; exit the water.
