Swim Lessons - Ages six to twelve

Our youth lessons teach six strokes: front crawl, elementary backstroke, back crawl, breast stroke, sidestroke, and butterfly. Classes feature small instructor-to-student ratios and are structured to maximize in-water instruction. Based
on the results of a swim test at the first lesson, your child will be placed in one of the following groups:

Polliwog (Beginner)

Designed for the school-age beginner who has little or no swim experience. Emphasis is placed on water adjustment, kicking on front and back, basic paddle stroke, floating on front and back, basic backstroke and pool safety. There are no prerequisites for enrollment other than an age requirement.

Guppy (Advnaced Beginner)

This level is for children who can swim 15 feet on their own, but need to work on their freestyle technique. Rotary breathing will be introduced, as well as a more advanced technique for backstroke and elementary backstroke. Participants will work on floating on front and back, treading water, deep-water swimming, pool safety and there will be an introduction to diving.

Minnow (Intermediate 1)

For children who can already swim one length of the lap
pool (25 meters) with freestyle, backstroke, sidestroke and breaststroke. Proper rotary breathing technique will be stressed and participants will be introduced to the butterfly stroke in addition to refining all the strokes.

Fish (Intermediate 2)

Children will continue to refine their strokes and work
toward swimming longer distances (50 meters) with an increased expectation of proper stoke technique. Fish students will be introduced to surface dives, butterfly strokes and advanced synchronized swimming skills.

Flying Fish (Advanced 1)

The focus of the Flying Fish level is perfecting previously learned strokes over greater distances (100 meters). Flying Fish students will continue the development of butterfly and are introduced to flip turns, the lifesaving stroke and additional rescue techniques.

Shark (Advanced 2)

In this level, students have mastered the competitive strokes. Children will learn the inverted breaststroke, trudgen crawl and life-saving skills. They will also perform the 200-yard individual medley.
