Prerequisites: All participants must be evaluated by pool staff prior to registration. Participants must successfully pass or be competent in all skills and objectives in Level 3. Returning participants need to contact pool staff to ensure the correct prerequisite skills are listed on their SDRecConnect account otherwise, ActiveNet will not allow you to register for any upper level lessons). If this is your first time registering for lessons with the City of San Diego you will need to contact pool staff to schedule a swim assessment and if needed, help create an SDRecConnect account.
Objectives: This class is designed to introduce participants to the competitive aspect of swimming and refine stroke technique. Participates will refine the coordination and endurance of freestyle and backstroke; and learn breaststroke and butterfly.
Skills: Competition diving, competitive flip turns for freestyle and backstroke, competitive open turns for breaststroke and butterfly: freestyle 100 yards, backstroke 100 yards, breaststroke 50 yards, butterfly 25 yards, 25 yards of each competitive stroke or 100 yards Individual Medley (IM). Participants will learn to read a pace clock and must swim 4x 50 yards on an interval.
