Prerequisite: All participants must be evaluated by pool staff prior to registration. Participants must successfully pass or be competent in all skills and objectives for Advanced Tot or Level 1. Returning participants need to contact pool staff to ensure the correct prerequisite skills are listed on their SDRecConnect account. Otherwise ActiveNet will not allow you to register for any upper level lessons. If this is your first time registering for lessons with the City of San Diego you will need to contact pool staff to schedule a swim assessment and if needed, help create an SDRecConnect account.
Objectives: This class is designed for participants to master basic swimming skills, develop and coordinate strokes, and to increase stamina and pool safety awareness.
Skills: Safety concepts, rhythmic breathing, multiple front and back float combinations, retrieve object from deep water, jump into deep water, introduction to treading water, front and back glide with flutter kicking, catch-up freestyle with side breathing 15-25 yards, whip kick on back 15 yards, elementary backstroke arms 20 yards, backstroke 15-25 yards, plus various combinations of all skills.
